MPower, the flagship event of MAXIM is a National Level Case Study based Competition held as a part of Xpressions – the annual techno-cultural fest of XIMB. The competition brings together the best brains from the country’s finest educational institutions. The event is designed to test the marketing acumen of the participants, by providing them a challenging platform where they strive to apply a broad range of skills so as to identify quantitative and qualitative aspects and provide unique and innovative solutions to real life problems.

The competition is generally open to students enrolled in full time MBA program, where each team shall comprise of two members from the same institute. There is also no cap on the number of teams registered per institute.

The contest is usually conducted in two phases. Round 1 consists of an online quiz on questions which test the skills of the participant teams on their marketing acuity and their ability to think on their feet. The online quiz of MPower is touted to be one of the toughest marketing based quizzes in the country which puts even the brightest minds in a spot and is highly looked up to for the same. The top scoring teams are shortlisted to participate in phase 2 – The Case Study round. Here, the teams are required to work on and analyse a real time live case and send solutions for the same in PPT format. The teams need to apply their understanding of various marketing concepts and come up with innovative and original solutions for the case and are judged on these grounds. The selected teams from Round 2 then come down to XIMB campus during Xpressions to present their solutions in front of an esteemed jury chosen by MAXIM. The solutions are generally evaluated on the basis of feasibility of the solution, relevance to the current scenario in the sector and ingenuity.

In its latest edition – MPower 2016, MAXIM in association with the luxury fashion retailer, ‘Date the Ramp’, floated a unique case study to test one’s business acumen in Marketing and Sales in the fashion industry, quoting Cash Prizes worth ₹ 90,000. The initial registrations saw participation of over 300 teams for Round 1 from which 50 successful teams were selected to work on the case study floated. The finale of MPower ’16 witnessed the 6 finalist teams from prestigious B-schools battling it out with creative presentations showcasing their extensive research and putting forward their proposed strategies in front of the judges and audiences of XIMB. The judges for the event questioned the teams on various aspects like psychographics, sustainability, and feasibility of some of the proposed strategies. Finally, the judges voiced their appreciation of the teams and gave valuable insights on the case study along with a discussion about the various challenges by the online fashion industry. The participants along with the audience found the ultimate round to be very enriching and an informative experience. MPower successfully ended on an ambitious note of a bigger event the coming year.
